Muffins, especially chocolate muffins will always be my first love and I will always have a soft spot for them. Chocolate muffins are the first thing I ever baked.
They are so easy to make and you can basically add everything you want in them. Everything, I’m not joking. Did you know that you can make muffins out of..omelet? Yes, that’s true. You can basically put everything you want in your muffin pan and make a muffin out of it! That’s how fun it is.
I’ve been making muffins for a long, long time and I tried out a lot of recipes and I will continue to do so, it’s just so fun trying out new recipes. So when I am telling you that these are the best muffins I ever made, you’ve gotta trust me. The texture is perfect, the taste is divine, not too sweet but sweet enough, stuffed with chocolate chunks and with an oozing nutella center.
I don’t know if you remember or if you tried my Nutella brownies recipe, which is one of my favorite recipes and as much as I love brownies, these nutella muffins are way, way better. But that’s probably because I have a thing with muffins!
I really hope you will try this recipe, it is super easy to make, you don’t need any fancy equipment at all and it’s only gonna take you about half an hour. Let’s get to work!

Cook Time | 17 minutes |
Servings |
12 muffins
|
- 310 g flour
- 50 g cocoa powder
- 170 g sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 175 g chocolate chips chocolate chunks
- 1 large egg room temperature
- 240 ml buttermilk*
- 100 ml coconut oil or vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 12-24 teaspoons Nutella
Ingredients

|
- Preheat the oven to 200C and grease a 12 hole muffin pan very well or line it with parchment paper.
- Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt) in a large bowl. Fold in the chocolate chips/chocolate chunks.
- In another medium bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, oil and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and mix slowly until combined. Careful not to over-mix.
- Divide the batter evenly between 12 muffin slots, filling only half way. Spoon 1-2 teaspoons of Nutella into the centers, then spoon the remaining batter on top of each muffin.
- Bake them for 15-17 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
* If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by simply measuring 1 cup (240 ml) of milk and stir 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, then it's ready to use.
